Personal Lines New Business Specialist
Position:
Full-time
Work Location:
Hybrid with the majority being remote.
Job Overview:
To build relationships with prospective clients and arrange coverage that meets their unique lifestyle. Providing a friendly and relatable client experience is essential by doing our best to ensure clients feel heard, valued, and seen as a person first and foremost.
Office hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
Responsibilities:
- Bind coverage based on insurer and Cornerstone underwriting standards
- Provide professional insurance quotes to clients
- Remain current with awareness of binding authority, underwriting rules, products, and rating procedures of insurance companies
- Build trustworthy relationships with current and prospective clients
- Meet or exceed monthly sales targets
Education and Experience Requirements:
- While the Alberta Insurance Council Level 1 General License and experience in personal lines insurance is preferred, Cornerstone is ready and willing to train the right candidate who is interested in joining our industry
- Superior customer service acumen with 5+ years’ experience in customer service industry
- Proven sales experience is an asset
- Proficient using TAM, Applied Rating Services and Microsoft Office an asset
- Completed or working toward an industry designation (CIP/CAIB) would be an asset
- University degree preferred

History
1930
George Corus (our CEO Owen’s grandfather) was involved in the life insurance business in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
1945
Fred Corus (Owen’s father), followed in his dad’s footsteps and got into the insurance industry. This took him to Edmonton where he started his insurance agency in 1960.
1980
Owen joined the agency. He and his wife, Lori, took over the family business in 1987 when it was still known as Corus Insurance Agencies Ltd.
1990
Owen and Lori merged their business with Rick and Alice Struik and as a result, Cornerstone Insurance Brokers Ltd was born.
2008
Rick and Alice retired and sold their shares to Owen and Lori.
2015
Owen’s sons Kevin and David Corus joined the Cornerstone team and continue to be involved with the business to this day.
